Kein Holzstück mehr

2026

»Kein Holzstück mehr« (translated: no longer a piece of wood) is a photographic work with 318 images, exploring prostheses and similar forms of body extensions. The starting point of the project is the technical development of artificial body parts and their evolution into today’s technologically complex systems. The work presents a selection of the diversity of contemporary prostheses and makes visible how closely the body, technology, and social norms are interconnected. To reference research, the photobook-cover and accompanying red and cyan glasses are 3D printed and part of the photographic work.

Based on interviews with people who use prostheses, the title (translated: no longer a piece of wood) takes its name from a quote from one of these conversations, reflecting the development of prostheses. The work explores how prostheses shape everyday life, personal experience, and the perception of others. In doing so, it presents the human being as a dynamic field in which technology, social expectations, and personal experience interact.
